Two page summation of Gerhardt Lohfink's Jesus and Community. No citations and no reference page.

Gerhard Lohfink’s Jesus and Community is written to shed light on how Christ envisioned the community of faithful after his departure from among men. It is important to note that Jesus did not found a church. That was not his intention on earth. The church, being a community of like-minded individuals, was founded when God spoke to Abraham and reinforced when He made the covenant with Israel. Jesus came to reaffirm that church and to teach humanity the path to the Father, through the Son. Jesus was not Christian. He was monotheistic Deistic Jew. Israel is the chosen of God and he came to return them to the fold. That is still the goal, and in the end that will be the result.
