This is a one page paper with bibliography page. (The first paragraph follows)

"Mao’s Cultural Revolution was Newspeak, like most propaganda terms in a closed society. There was little cultural about it except to destroy what culture had gone before. Artists who came of age during the decade when all forms of art were examined for political correctness, and all Chinese artists since, have learned that art and politics are inseparable in China. Art was not accepted for its intrinsic aesthetics but rather for its benefit to the regime. The revolution ended with the death of Mao in 1976 but Chinese attempts at total freedom of expression are not encouraged."
